Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the authority to order investigations is not a power confined to the Home Ministry alone but the Prosecutor General and some other institutions also has the same power.
Home Minister Umar Naseer made this remark in reply to a question raised by MP Mariya Ahmed Didi in the Peoples’ Majlis.
He said that if there has to be an investigation conducted in his field, then he will make such an order for an investigation.
Noting the obstructions for the Maldives Police Service in curbing crime in the society, Umar Naseer said that the police lacks proper resources because of the arson attacks on many properties of the Police during the 8 February arson.
“Secondly, there should be amendments brought to many laws. Hopefully I will do this. Third is the issue of the drug problem. This is coming out from the drug problem,” he said.
Umar Naseer said that the biggest problem is many including a former President encouraging the youth to abuse drugs and deviate.
