Former Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis Abdulla Shahid has said that democracy in Maldives is now under arrest.
Male’ West Constituency MP, Abdulla Shahid made this remark at last night’s protest held calling for the release of all political prisoners.
Shahid said that the Islam forbids injustice and oppression. He said that there is no room for oppression and falsehood in Islam.
He stated that Allah has ordered the people to be just in their dealings and in governing the people.
Shahid said that oppressors can deceive the people and can deceive themselves. However, he said that the oppressors cannot deceive Allah.
He said that if a country claims Islam but does not establish justice then the claim has no true value. He said that a country will be regarded as an Islamic country when they establish the justice and fairness shown by Islam.
