Prosecutions should be initiated based on Audit Report findings- Amir
Kudahuvadhoo constituency MP Ahmed Amir has said that prosecutions should be initiated based on audit report findings.

Amir said that up until now the auditor general’s office only audits government institutions and issues reports. He said that no prosecutions are carried out based on the findings of the audit reports regardless how much corruption cases come to surface through them.

He said that many people seem to be content with the auditor general issuing reports. He said that this tradition should stop now.

The MP further said that investigations should be conducted and the culprits should be prosecuted.

He said that if this is not the case then there is no reason to waste government finances on the Auditor General’s Office.

Amir said that the mandate of the Auditor General as per the constitution is auditing, the accounts, financial statements and financial management and prepare and publish reports on all Government ministries; departments operating under Government ministries; other government agencies and offices; all offices and organisations operating under the legislative authority; Independent Commissions and Independent Offices established in accordance with the Constitution and law, and all offices operating under the same; all offices and organisations operating under the judicial authority.

He said that the audit reports have exposed many issues of corruption within the system. He said that the members of the Majlis has heard the auditor general claim that there is nothing more that the auditor general can do after issuing reports.
