Jumhooree Party and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) makes 13 demands from the government during the “In Defence of the constitution” mass gathering held yesterday in Male’.
The demands include: not to constrict the rights granted to the people from the constitution, to withdraw charges laid against former president Mohamed Nasheed and to release him from prison, to withdraw the political charges against former Defense Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim and other political figures, to make amends to the audit law and withdraw the dismissal of the Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim, to give the promised financial aid to fishermen and farmers - and in the case it’s not possible - to clearly announce so, to give out electricity subsidies in a fair manner and to cut the duties taken from oil by the government.
Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim said that these demands were made after discussions between Jumhooree Party and MDP.
He said that both the parties will monitor closely how much the government meets these demands.
