An analyst has stated that there is no one in Maldives with direct links to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, the analyst stated that he does not believe that all the Maldivians who went to Syria went there having direct connections to the Islamic State.
“From our investigations we see that they go there having contacts to some small groups. In reality, it is not clear whether these groups even support the Islamic State. There are fake groups too,” he said.
The analyst said that there have been cases of fraud by some of these agents. “Some have scammed these gullible people into giving them large amounts of money for nothing,” he said.
“So they are forced to do whatever those people want. We should realise these issues,” he said.
He said that the last group of people who went to join the Islamic State up until now it is not clear whether they have reached their destination.
Islamic Ministry have been organizing programs to stop people from going to foreign wars. According to the Minister it is prohibited for Muslims to join civil wars of other countries.
