The Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheed has met with the National Bureau of Classification yesterday.
The meeting was held in the afternoon at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building and involved the topic of certain individuals not complying with censorship laws, along with topics involving ways to deal with individuals selling pornographic material in the Maldives.
The Commissioner of Police spoke at the meeting, stating that since the work of the Classification Bureau falls under a certain institution of the government, he believes that the work has to continue being done in the best way possible by said institution, adding that all media displayed or viewed in the media should be lawful and should not be an affront to Islamic values as well.
He went on to say that the Maldives Police Service would aid in the tracking and apprehension of any individuals who violate the guidelines set by the Bureau.
The representatives from the National Bureau of Classification shared how their performed their duties and what measures were taken against individuals who violated the regulations, along with noting that since the Bureau was not an investigative institution, they would like to collaborate more with the Maldives Police Service in such matters.
The Commissioner also stated that imparting information on censorship laws and regulations on the youth of the nation was essential, adding that their Facebook page and Twitter account could be used as a means to such an end.
The meeting was also attended by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Farhad Fikree, Superintendent of Police, Hamdhoon Rasheed and Moosa Ali.
