Legal team of former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim has said that Maldives Police Service has failed to bring enough evidence to connect weapons found in Nazim’s residence to him.
Speaking to the media, the leading attorney of Nazim, Maumoon Hameed said that although Police reveals that they have the capability to check 600 finger prints an hour they had not checked the finger print of any of the five people living in that apartment.
Maumoon Hameed said that the fingerprint information is undisclosed because there is no truth to the accusations.
He said that if the Police conducts a search raid they should goto the court with enough evidences to establish the crime to the accused. He said that in Nazim’s case the Police had nothing.
Maumoon Hameed said that the Police videoed the arrest of former President Mohamed Nasheed in Faresmathoda however it is worrying that Police failed to video the search raid conducted at Nazim’s residence.
Ibrahim Shameem from Nazim’s legal team stated that they stated that the Police spent some time alone in the room after sending Nazim’s wife out because the police revealed this during the court hearing.
“Nazim gave his testimony. Gave his finger print and DNA. So what is the cooperation that he did not give?,” he asked.
Ali Zahir, the spokesperson of Adhaalath Party who is also a member of the legal team stated that the legal team met Nazim on Sunday and he is in good condition.
