Former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim has requested an independent forensic analysis of the weapons allegedly found by Maldives Police Service during a search raid at his residence.
Nazim’s attorney, Maumoon Hameed made the request on behalf of him. The letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police stated that Nazim himself will cover the expenses of the forensic analysis of the gun, three bullets, magazine, pendrive and the white gloves via an independent forensic analyst.
The legal team of the former Minister of Defence (Colonel) Mohamed Nazim has stated that no explosives were found during the Police search of the premises of the residence of Nazim.
The legal team stated that the Police smashed the door of the bedroom and forced Nazim and his wife out of the room. They stated that the Police officers who went into spent about 10 to 15 minutes alone in the room.
“So in this time whether the Police did anything or didn’t it is not known except for them. This is not how a search operation is conducted. The accused should be present,” the legal team stated.
Maumoon Hameed, the head of the legal team stated that the search team first and foremost checked a cupboard in a corner in the back of a room and took out a bag. He said that they did not check anywhere else.
“They did open the closet doors but did not search inside nor any of the drawers. They did not even check the restroom,” he said.
He said that they only showed a gun and three bullets from the bag but did not show any explosive device.
“This explosive device according to them was found after they went to the Police station. If that big a device was on the bag then they would have surely seen it. This is unacceptable,” he said.
Maumoon said that the police checked the premises as if they knew where to look. So if they have this much information then they should clearly give these details to the judge to get the court warrant.
