According to CONI report the current govt is void- Gasim
Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim has said that the current government is void according to the CONI report.

Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking at last night’s meeting of the “Maldivians in defence of the constitution” organized by the Jumhooree Party.

He said that the CONI report states that if a government comes to power through a coalition and then breaks the coalition then it is no longer legitimate. Therefore, he said that the present administration of Maldives is illegitimate and cannot be accepted.

Gasim Ibrahim called the authorities to immediately do as stipulated by the constitution in such a situation.

In addition to this, the Jumhooree Party leader criticized former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom for implying that it was the Jumhooree Party which left the coalition.

Gasim said that Gayoom himself was the chair of the meeting of the PPM council held to remove Jumhooree Party from the coalition.

He said that it can be therefore said that the former President Gayoom was behind this decision although he claims otherwise.

Furthermore, Gasim also spoke about the issue of the government calling for the evacuation of some buildings given to Maldives National University. He said that it is absurd that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom as usual claims that he had no prior knowledge of such a decision.

“How can he say he did not know. He is just trying to save himself from blame by pointing the finger at the Minister. This is something even the devil won’t do. He is trying to deprive the right to education from thousands of students,” he said.
