Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has said that intimidation and fear mongering tactics used by the government will not deter him nor the Jumhooree Party from advocating for the rights of the people.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking at the public rally of the Jumhooree Party held at M. Kunooz under the slogan “Maldivians in defence of the Constitution.”
He said that the Elections Commission sent a letter trying to deter him from using the freedom of speech granted by the Constitution.
Gasim said that the Elections Commission should consider reviewing these rights. He said that these letters and other intimidation attempts will never succeed.
“We will not be deterred. We will not back down. We will continue to represent the people. We will continue to advocate for the rights of the people. We will never say anything except within the confines of law,” he said.
He said that the government and all those who resort to such primitive tactics are attacking the democratic process and the constitution itself.
Gasim said that the government and all those responsible for the threats made against him and colleagues are mistaken if they believe that this will stop them from continuing their work to deliver a shared future for everyone in the Maldivian society.
