Former Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Riyaz has said that the Maldives Police Service is now under political influence.
Abdulla Riyaz made this remark at the public rally held at the Jumhooree Party’s main activity center at M. Kunooz.
He said that when he was appointed as the Police Commissioner on 2012 the institution was very politically influenced. However, he said that after much efforts from him and his team the institution was saved from undue political influence.
Abdulla Riyaz thanked former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan for giving him the opportunity to look after and manage Maldives Police Service independently without any political influence.
“I tried my best to remove political influence from the Police Service. At that time there was a lot of international pressure. However, we, me and my team brought results,” Riyaz said.
Riyaz said that the institution is again politically motivated and it should be free from any undue political influence.
