A mass rally is being organized by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhooree Party (JP) on February 27 in defence of the constitution.
Chairperson of MDP Ali Waheed, speaking at a press conference held at Jumhooree Malan following a joint commission meeting of MDP and JP, said that all well wishers and supporters of the Jumhooree Party and MDP are invited to participate in this event.
He said that a prior notice was given so as to accommodate as many as people who wants to participate in this mass gathering including islanders.
Ali Waheed said that more details of the event will be revealed to the media eventually.
Ali Waheed said that the joint meeting of the two parties concluded with a decision to share the opposition and violation of the constitution by the government to international bodies.
“Some ruling party members from the members of the Peoples’ Majlis are deliberately submitting various amendments to destroy the constitution. We have decided tonight to work as one body against this oppression,” he said.
