Villa Air’s air carrier “Flyme” has received a new passenger airplane yesterday, bringing the fleet’s total to 6. The new plane brought was an ATR-72-212A (ATR72-500).

The airplane landed at 5:49 afternoon at Maamigili International Airport.

A special ceremony was held at the airport to receive the airplane.

The plane was brought to Maldives under the supervision of Flyme technical director Abdulla Nashid, two Danish Pilots and an engineer.

The plane accommodates a total of 68 passengers.

Villa Air was incorporated in 1997 by the Chairman of Villa Group Gasim Ibrahim with a vision to build an airport and to create an airline, baptized later FlyMe, owned by Villa Group. Villa Air/FlyMe had its maiden flight on October 1st 2011 between Villa Airport Mamigili (VAM) and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. The beginning of commercial operations of FlyMe to VAM creates a 24/7 safe and convenient air corridor between Male International Airport and south Air Atoll. Today Villa Group is the proud owner of the only ICAO Certified (Domestic/Private) airport in Maldives.
