Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim has said that that the Prosecutor General’s comment regarding the Leader of the Jumhooree Party has exposed how much the constitution is need of preservation and protection.
Ameen said that the constitution stipulates the independency of independent institutions including the Prosecutor General from undue influence.
However, he said that the current Prosecutor General, Muhthaz Muhsin has gone against the constitution and exposed how biased he is to the government. He said that the Prosecutor General should be free from political influence and should not make political comments to defend certain party.
The Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party stated that the current Prosecutor General making such political remarks regarding a political leader such as Gasim Ibrahim clearly shows how important it is to stand up to uphold and preserve the constitution.
He said that no independent institution or anyone in such a position should interject his or her personal biases and make political statements.
Ameen said that the Jumhooree Party leader did not oppose any law or did not violate any article of the constitution when he requested to withdraw the charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Ameen said that Gasim Ibrahim made his comments in accordance to the freedom of speech granted by the article 27 of the constitution.
