Minister of Law Reform and Gender, Mohamed Anil has said that the ban on smoking in the streets have been sent to be published on the state gazette.
Anil made this remark at the inauguration ceremony of the clinic opened at Dhamanaveshi. He made the remark following a question asked by Miadhu Daily regarding the increase of diseases related to smoking.
Dr. Shainee, the Acting Health Minister said that now children as young as eleven year olds are also smoking.
Cigarette smoking during childhood and adolescence produces significant health problems among young people, including an increase in the number and severity of respiratory illnesses, decreased physical fitness and potential effects on the rate of lung growth and maximum lung function.
Dr. Shainee said that 70 percent of the smokers want to stop their bad habit however they need the help and assistance of others to do that.
He said that the clinic opened at the Dhamanaveshi will have facilities that help smokers get over of their addiction to tobacco.
