Jumooree Party’s Deputy Leader, Ameen Ibrahim has said that it is a national concern if violation of the constitution by the government is considered a joke.
He said that if experienced politicians make such a remark while even from lawyers to the common person is aware of the violations of the constitution then this is a very worrying ignorance.
Ameen made this remark in the press conference held following the meeting of the Jumhooree Party and MDP yesterday to announce the joining of Maldivian traders union with them to defend the constitution.
He said that it is surprising that some old politicians feign ignorance while the government is trying to destroy the whole system by violating the rights of the people granted by the constitution.
“It is saddening if this is taken as a joke. When we come out to defend and protect the constitution they find it as something funny. This is indeed very worrying,” he said.
Ameen said that this shows the importance of everyone standing together to protect the constitution and to make the government accountable.
