First meeting of the Joint Meeting Mechanism to deal with the issue of safety of Chinese tourists in Maldives
The first Meeting of the Joint Meeting Mechanism to deal with the issue of safety of Chinese Tourists in the Maldives was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.

Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Wang Fukang, Ambassador of China to the Maldives, co-chaired the Meeting.

During the meeting, Minister Dunya noted the importance of strengthening tourism cooperation between the Maldives and China. She also noted that the Joint meeting mechanism is an important initiative to exchange ideas to ensure a safe environment for Chinese Tourists during their stay in the Maldives.

Ambassador Wang Fukangthanked the Government of Maldives for the coordination and cooperation extended in ensuring a safe environment to the Chinese tourists in the Maldives.

Ambassador expressed confidence that the mechanism will lead to strengthening of the joint efforts by the Maldives and China in securing a safe environment for the Chinese tourists in the Maldives.

The Joint Meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of China in the Maldives, Ministry of Tourism, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Maldives Police Service, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Airports Company Ltd. MATI, Adhaaran Resort and Villa Travels.

The Meeting was held under the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the Maldives and China during the visit of Xi Jinping to the Maldives in September 2014.
