Maldives assumes Chair of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization
At the Special Session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization that is being held today in Geneva, the Maldives has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Organisation.

Minister at The President's Office, Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, as the member to the Board from Maldives was appointed as the Chair of the Executive Board.

In addition to chairing the Third Special Session of the Executive Board on Ebola Emergency being held in Geneva this week, Minister Shareef will also chair the 136th Session of the Executive Board to be held from 26 January to 3 February 2015.

The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 members, each designated by a member state who has been elected to serve by the World Health Assembly. Maldives is represented among the 11 members of the South East Asia region of the WHO.

The Maldives will hold the Chairmanship throughout the World Health Assembly scheduled to be held in May 2015.
