President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that the people will lose their trust on the government if the coalition breaks apart.
Sheikh Imran made this remark in a message he tweeted today via his official twitter account.
“Not every silence means one is pleased with what is going on,” he said.
Sheikh Imran also noted that the current government came to power through a coalition.
Adhaalath Party is one of the parties which campaigned to bring the current government without any conditions. However, since they did not enter into any agreements with the government they were not included as a member of the coalition during the Peoples’ Majlis election.
It is noted that during the first days of the current administration, Gasim Ibrahim, the leader of the Jumhooree Party was praised by PPM leader, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and they stated that he was on the forefront to bring the current government to power.
However, when Gasim Ibrahim ran for the Speaker’s position at the Peoples’ Majlis, the ruling PPM annulled the coalition agreement with Jumhooree Party and announced that the Jumhooree Party is no longer a coalition partner. However, the ruling PPM did not officially inform the Jumhooree Party of this decision.
Jumhooree Party yesterday announced that they have decided to leave the government coalition therefore making PPM and MDA the only remaining members of the coalition.
