Jumhooree Party has announced that the party has decided to leave the government coalition.
The Jumhooree Party made this decision at the meeting of the National Steering Committee of the party held today afternoon.
The Deputy Leader of the party, Ameen Ibrahim said that the members decided to leave the government coalition because the government has been trying to depower the constitution and going against the constitutional spirit.
Ameen Ibrahim said that the Jumhooree Party will always work in accordance to the constitution and will continue to uphold the constitution.
“Many are questioning regarding the stand of the Jumhooree Party. Some are asking for clarification. Therefore, we have today clarified our position to the people,” he said.
Ameen said that the current government came to power after agreeing to give 35 percent share of the government to the Jumhooree Party however the ruling party PPM or the government did not act upon the agreement.
While PPM claimed that Jumhooree Party is no longer a member of the government coalition, PPM stated that Jumhooree Party is a member of the coalition when MDP tried to take a vote of no confidence against Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon
