Maldives Seeks International Partnerships for Green Innovation and Climate Action

The Maldives has explored new opportunities for international cooperation in green innovation, climate action and sustainable development during the Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference and Eco Expo Asia Conference held in Hong Kong.

The Maldives was represented at the events by Aishath Inaaya, State Minister at the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and Deputy Minister Ali Nasir.

According to the Ministry, the conferences provided a valuable platform to engage with international stakeholders working in environmental protection and sustainable development, exchange knowledge and explore potential areas for collaboration.

Discussions also focused on opportunities to develop innovative solutions and projects aimed at promoting green technology, protecting the environment, strengthening climate action and supporting sustainable development.

The Ministry highlighted the importance of participating in international forums to build partnerships, share expertise and identify practical approaches that could contribute to the Maldives’ environmental priorities.

As a low-lying island nation, the Maldives is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, coastal erosion and threats to fragile marine ecosystems. These challenges make climate resilience, environmental conservation and sustainable development important priorities for the country.

International cooperation and access to innovative technologies can play a significant role in helping the Maldives address these challenges while supporting long-term environmental protection and sustainable economic growth.

The Ministry noted that engagement with global partners through such conferences would help strengthen national efforts to protect the environment and explore solutions that support the country’s climate action and sustainability goals.
