As part of the ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, a separate official programme was arranged for the First Lady in Colombo.
During her engagements, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed visited the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, one of Sri Lanka’s leading paediatric hospitals, where she was welcomed by senior officials and briefed on the hospital’s services and operations.
She toured several sections of the hospital, including diagnostic facilities, the plastic surgery ward, and children’s wards, meeting healthcare professionals involved in patient care.
The First Lady also signed the hospital’s guestbook and commended the dedication and compassion shown by the staff in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of children. The Lady Ridgeway Hospital is the largest children’s hospital in Sri Lanka and provides free healthcare services to children across the country.
In a separate engagement, the First Lady visited Colombo’s Good Market as part of her official programme.
The visit included a tour of an exhibition held at The 80 Club of Colombo featuring products developed by women entrepreneurs. The exhibition showcased sustainably produced food items, health-related products, ethically made clothing, lifestyle goods, and products created by social enterprises focused on community development.
During the visit, the First Lady met with several entrepreneurs and discussed opportunities to expand businesses, encourage sustainable practices, and strengthen collaboration among different sectors.
She also highlighted the importance of empowering women-led enterprises and fostering partnerships that contribute to inclusive economic growth.
The engagements reflected the close social and cultural ties shared between the Maldives and Sri Lanka and underscored the role of such exchanges in further strengthening bilateral relations.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are also expected to attend a special reception hosted for Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka. The First Couple is scheduled to return to the Maldives on 6 May.
