Jet fuel prices reduced

Cost per litre cut from USD 1.99 to USD 1.75

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced a reduction in the price of jet fuel it supplies.

The adjustment comes at a time when global prices for goods and services—particularly fuel—have been rising amid ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Israel and their military actions in Iran.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the President’s Office, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohamed Ameen described the increase in fuel prices as a significant concern. However, he confirmed that authorities were able to bring the price down from USD 1.99 to USD 1.75 per litre, with the revised rate taking effect last Friday.

The Minister noted that the 24-cent reduction was achieved through joint efforts by MACL and the Ministry of Transport.

Addressing the tourism sector, Ameen said that while tourist arrivals have declined by 4.8 percent in recent weeks, the numbers are expected to recover as Middle Eastern airlines resume operations. He added that ongoing discussions with major international carriers are already beginning to show positive results.

He further stated that both Qatar Airways and Emirates are scheduled to operate three flights starting June, with adjustments made to their schedules in response to increased demand reflected in booking systems.

In addition, Ameen highlighted that British Airways is planning a 32 percent increase in its operations for the upcoming tourist season.
