Japan donates disaster response equipment to Maldives

The Government of Japan has provided a significant consignment of disaster response equipment to the Maldives, aimed at strengthening the country’s emergency preparedness.

The equipment was officially handed over to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) during a special ceremony, where Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko presented the items to NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan.

According to NDMA, the donated equipment is valued at approximately USD 4.3 million and was provided under Japan’s grant aid programme for Economic and Social Development.

The authority stated that the new resources will enhance response capabilities during emergencies such as flooding and fires across the atolls. NDMA also conveyed its appreciation to the Japanese government for its continued support in improving disaster management efforts in the Maldives.
