President Mohamed Muizzu has appealed to the public to exercise stronger personal and parental responsibility in observing traffic laws, following a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a teenager.
The appeal came after a 16-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a crash near the Sinamale Bridge in the early hours of 24 February. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a motorcycle reportedly lost control at high speed and mounted the pavement. Both the 19-year-old rider and his 16-year-old passenger were injured, with the younger victim later passing away while receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message shared on social media, the President conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, offered prayers for the deceased, and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured. He underscored that strict adherence to traffic regulations is vital to safeguarding lives and urged collective efforts to prevent similar tragedies.
Police have stated that the motorcycle rider was not licensed for the vehicle category involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
