Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Dongming, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu expressed his sincere appreciation to President Xi Jinping for China’s continued support and cooperation, noting that it has played a significant role in the Maldives’ economic and social development. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations across a wide range of sectors, grounded in mutual trust and a long-standing friendship. The President also highlighted China’s assistance in key development initiatives, including major infrastructure projects.
Discussions focused on enhancing Maldives–China relations by identifying new avenues for cooperation and reinforcing existing partnerships. Priority areas included housing and infrastructure, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology and trade. Both sides also reviewed the Memoranda of Understanding and agreements signed during President Muizzu’s visits to China, expressing satisfaction with the steady progress of ongoing projects.
Vice Chairman Wang Dongming acknowledged the close and friendly ties between the two countries, noting that relations have been further strengthened through President Muizzu’s visits to China. He said the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed continued support for the Maldives’ development priorities.
The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their shared commitment to further strengthening Maldives–China relations to achieve tangible and mutually beneficial outcomes.
