STELCO and STO Donate MVR 250,000 Each as Sri Lanka Telethon Total Reaches MVR 5.28 Million

State Electric Company (STELCO) and State Trading Organisation (STO) have each donated MVR 250,000 to the “Maldivians for Ceylon” telethon, reinforcing the nationwide humanitarian response as Sri Lanka grapples with widespread flooding and destruction triggered by storm Ditwah. Staff from both companies personally handed over the contributions to the telethon team.

Sri Lanka is currently facing one of its most challenging periods in recent years, with torrential rains causing severe flooding, landslides, and extensive damage to homes, roads, and essential infrastructure. Thousands of families have been displaced, emergency shelters are overwhelmed, and authorities are working around the clock to provide relief to communities cut off by rising waters. The country’s disaster response agencies continue to issue alerts as weather conditions remain unstable in several districts.

With the latest contributions from STELCO and STO, total funds collected as of 10:00 a.m. on Monday have reached MVR 5,286,762.00 and USD 41,869.96. Both donation accounts remain open, with public and corporate support continuing to grow as the telethon gains nationwide momentum.

The contributions from STELCO and STO join a rising number of state-owned enterprises, private businesses, and individual donors who have stepped forward to assist Sri Lankan families coping with displacement, loss of livelihoods, and urgent humanitarian needs.
