Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim has said that governing a country does not give anyone in authority to terrorize the people.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking to the media at a time a lot of people were gathered near his house when Maldives Police Service revealed about a court warrant to search the residence of Gasim.
Gasim said that ruling and governing a country is a responsibility that should be taken sincerely. He said that those in authority and power should be honest and sincere to the constitution and the nation and they should grant the rights of all without violating the rights of anyone.
“It is not from the way of governance to harass people. Those days have been bygone with the past. That day wont come back to Maldives,” he said.
Gasim said that this has been witnessed by those countries which have terrorized the people in the past. He said that lessons should be taken from the developments in the countries of the middleeast and also from neighbouring countries.
Gasim Ibrahim expressed happiness that MDP stated that they will do everything they can to protect the rights of the people.
“MDP is the largest party in the Maldives. This is seen in the results of the Presidential Election,” he said.
He said that it is saddening that Maldives is seeing a tradition of betraying the people by the governing body by not fulfilling their electoral pledges to the people.
