Zakat fund to cover the funeral processions of Maldivians who pass away in foreign countries
National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has revealed that the agency will be covering all the expenses of the funeral processions of Maldivians who pass away in foreign countries.

NSPA CEO Mujthaba Jaleel told Vnews, that the government had decided to cover the expenditure of funerals for Maldivians who pass away in foreign countries through NSPA since many Maldivians had requested for the service.

According to Vnews, he administration began covering the expenditure of funerals for Maldivians who pass away in foreign countries starting January 01st.

Jaleel revealed that NSPA had already arranged funerals for two Maldivians this month. Currently the services are only being provided for those who pass away in Sri Lanka and India.

Jaleel stated that they are working hard to introduce the services in Chennai, since a number of Maldivians travel to the sate for medical purposes.

Even though all funeral costs are to be covered by NSPA, if the family wishes to bring the dead body back to Maldives, that cost needs to be taken up by the family.

Funeral expenditure is being handled by the money allotted to NSPA by the Zakat Fund.
