Former Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis and Henveiru constituency MP, Abdulla Shahid said that authority and power will remain only when justice is established.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily regarding his speech at the MDP public rally held at Carnival stage on Friday night, Shahid said that all powers of state are to the people from the people and the people will not remain calm if the government is changing into a dictatorship.
“The people will say no. The people will come out to the streets. And the government will go down as is seen in the world today,” he said.
Shahid said that the government has the majority in the Peoples Majlis and therefore the government can implement the constitution without any hurdles.
“If the situation calls and necessitates amendments to the constitution the government can do it with their majority in the Majlis. If they follow the correct procedures then it is alright. However, if everything is done through deception and treachery then it’s a problem,” he said.
During his speech at the rally, Shahid said that the current government is trying unify all powers of state by influencing the judiciary instead of demarcating the three powers of state.
He said that the government should take heed and fear for their downfall if they continue on this path to become a fully fledged dictatorship.
