Sameer calls to remove fuel surcharge
Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer has called to remove fuel surcharge with the decrease in the oil price.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Sameer said that STO first decreased the oil price during last year’s October. He said that STO then decreased the price twice and it is a very good thing they have done for the people.

However, Sameer said that the people will most benefit from this change to the oil price with the government removing the surcharge from oil which they started when the oil price reached 122 US dollars.

He called the government that the fuel surcharge from the electricity bills should be removed. He noted that it is worrying that the government is still charging the people with the fuel surcharge first taken during a time when the oil price spiked in the international market.

Meanwhile, recently Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim also raised concern for the bills charging fuel surcharge by 43 percent while the oil price has gone down.

“Fuel surcharge: around 43% of total bill! Jp SG @meeraazu is right. Oil price went down but surcharge ...!!!! Pls...,” he tweeted.

Ameen also attached a screen shot of a copy of an Electricity Bill of STELCO to back his claims.
