Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the Jumhooree Party’s Parliamentary Group has decided to take the steps necessary to protect the constitution of Maldives and the party is happy with the decision of former President Mohamed Nasheed to embark on this same boat in defence of the constitution.
Ameen Ibrahim made this remark in a tweet shared on his official twitter account yesterday.
Kinbidhoo constituency MP and Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Group, Abdulla Riyaz told the media that the party is very worried and concerned of the basic rights granted by the constitution are being violated and in that case the party will hold discussions with all political parties.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the Jumhooree Party assures the people and the nation that the party will do everything in their power to uphold the constitution of Maldives.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the party will not accept any amendment made to water down the constitution and violate the rights granted by it.
He said that changes to the constitution should be made with much research and within the correct procedure.
Abdulla Riyaz noted that the leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim sacrifices and efforts have been pivotal in the passing of the constitution and he was the Speaker of the special Majlis at that time. He said that Gasim Ibrahim will continue to do everything he can to protect the constitution and make the people reap the benefits of it.
