Govt decides to give permit to build as high as 25 storeys in Male’ and islands near Male’
The government has decided to give permission to build as high as 25 storeys in Male’ and islands near Male’.

This was announced by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom last night at the ceremony held to officially inaugurate the second phase of the Hulhumale' land reclamation project.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Surf point Area, President Yameen said that this will hopefully resolve some of the problems faced by residents.

He said that the government made this decision after studies showed that the land has the capacity to hold buildings with 25 storeys.

President Yameen said that the government recommends to build taller buildings in the hope of helping resolve some of the problems of the people. He noted that there are many who have registered in the Male’ City’s register. He said that they should get housing and the housing units built in Hulhumale’ should be higher too to accompany as many as families.

The President reiterated that all works of the development of Hulhumale' would be carried out under a specific plan.

He said that Hulhumale’ will be a city of opportunities for the youth including job opportunities.

Meanwhile, currently buildings could only be constructed up to 15 storeys in Male'.
