Foreign Ministry has released a a press statement today saying that The Government of Maldives denies the media reports from Colombo claiming that some key figures in the previous Government in Sri Lanka “fled” to the Maldives following the Presidential election held on 8 January in Sri Lanka.
The Government of Maldives confirms that no senior official in the previous Government in Sri Lanka travelled to the Maldives after the Presidential election.
President Yameen, in his congratulatory message to President Sirisena today, praised the Sri Lankan people for demonstrating the strength of the country’s democracy and the resilience of its institutions.
