Commissioner of Police, Hussein Waheed has said that the Maldives Police Service is currently investigating the cases of Maldivians insulting Islam on social media.
Speaking at the press conference held at the Iskandharu Koshi, the Commissioner said that the Police are investigating these cases including the case of the leaked CCTV footage of two Maldivian men kissing in an elevator.
The commissioner said that these people will be found and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, condemning the open calls to homosexuality on social media by some Maldivians, Sheikh Ali Zahir, the spokesperson of Adhaalath Party said that Islamic teachings and moral values cannot be violated on the claims of freedom of speech and expression.
Sheikh Ali Zahir said that the constitution of Maldives only gives the freedom to express oneself within the boundaries set by Islam without violating any tenets of Islam.
The sheikh stressed that the authorities should take adequate measures against such people who call to such acts.
Sheikh Ali Zahir has said that measures should be taken against Maldivians calling for gay rights in the social media.
