President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has promised to increase the salary of teachers at the start of the new academic year.
President Yameen made this remark speaking at the ceremony held last night to inaugurate the salaries of the players of national teams.
He said that today the framework of the salaries will be decided after reviewing the pay structure.
The President said that the Ministry of Education, and Teachers Association of Maldives (TAM) had conducted notable activities in the past year, for an increase in their salary.
President Yameen assured assured that the rise would me no less than three halves of what teachers receive currently. However, he noted that there are several other issues which needs to be further improved in the education sector.
President of the Teachers Association Athif Abdul Hakeem stated that the association met with the President and the President requested to submit a proposal. The association has submitted the requested proposal.
