Salary has been introduced for the players of National club.
This was introduced in a ceremony held last night at Dharubaaruge by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Under this scheme, each player will get at least MVR 2500 each month. Salaries were allocated by dividing the players into four levels. MVR 2500 is for the players of the lowest level.
Ministry of Youth revealed that salaries were allocated for players of the National team for football, volleyball, basketball, cricket, badmington, TT, swimming, athletics, shooting, tennis, carom, netball, chess and handball.
More than 250 sportsman will get salaries under this new scheme introduced by the government.
In last night’s ceremony, a special symbol for national teams were also inaugurated. During the ceremony, the President noted that the sports association will be very relieved following the allocation of salaries for players of the national teams.
President Yameen said that playing sports is not just passing free time. He said that sports is a very important tool to build the nation. He said that sports will bring many lessons that can be used to take the nation to progress and development.
He noted that sports is an important part of the youth and therefore the government will give special focus to develop sports to empower the youth.
