Commissioner of Police Hussein Waheed has said that the dog squad that will be used by Maldives Police Service to as part of the government’s anti-drug trafficking efforts can be useful to Male’ City too.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, the Commissioner said that the dog squad will be generally used near the gates of Maldives.
“They are specially trained. They are sniff dogs. They will use their sense of smell to detect narcotics. This will be very important when the harbor is changed to Thilafushi,”he said.
Hussein Waheed said that the Minister of Home Affairs, Umae Naseer believes that everything that must be done should be done to combat drug trafficking.
He said that the biggest challenge in the Maldivian society is the problem of the drug epidemic.
The commissioner called all people to cooperate with the authorities to fight against this crime.
