Maldives Police Service has started investigating the unrest in Maafushi jail which began on 20th of this month.
According to Maldives Police Service, they are investigating three incidents related to the unrest. The first one is the case of an inmate attacking a prison guard.
In addition, the police are investigating a protest held outside the prison last Sunday around at 1645 hours. Furthermore, they are investigating the damages caused by the inmates to the CCTV cameras in the prison.
The police is also investigating an assault on a prison officer outside the jail in Maafushi.
At the moment there is a backup team of Maldives Police Service in the prison to assist Maldives Correctional Service Officers incase it is required.
