President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the Kulhudhufushi Port and Addu City Ports will be more beneficial when they are handed over to the MPL.
The President made this remark while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Addu City Water project and the Mifco Fisheries Complex project, held in Hulhudhoo Sunday evening.
President Yameen said that the two ports have been handed over to MPL and it is expected that MPL will develop the two ports.
He said that the two ports have been handled through taking debts from MPL and not through state budget since the time of President Mohamed Waheed.
“There is no profit. So now the expenses of the port will be covered from the state budget now that MPL will be handling the ports,” he said.
He said that these changes were brought to bring economic benefit to the country.
He said that with the new developments in the economy and the expansion of the industries more job opportunities will be opened. He said that more locals will be employed and the government does not want to bring foreigners for these jobs.
He said that hotel facility for guests visiting Addu City will be developed which will generate jobs for the youth of Addu City.
