Mahibadhoo constituency MP Thoriq has stated that the culture of apologizing and asking for forgiveness when one falls into error and mistakes should be revived in the society as it will help establish the stability in the society.
MP Thoriq made this remark speaking at the inauguration of Police Youth Challenge Cup 2014 last night on the football pitch in front of the Traffic Police Department building.
He said that everyone makes mistakes and the best of people will ask others for forgiveness and apologize for falling into mistakes regardless one believes it a mistake or not.
He said that small issues are made into bigger issues because of the lack of the characteristic to ask others for forgiveness. He said that this has led to fighting and also to bloodshed in the society.
Thoriq said that no one should be hesitant to say sorry and it does not make one lower but raises his or her status.
The ceremony was also attended by the Commissioner of Police, Hussain Waheedh and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Saudi, Head of the Police Club, Superintendent of Police, Assad Waheedh, Head of the Public Affairs Department, Inspector of Police, Mohammed Nadheem, senior members of the Police Service and players of the two teams of the opening match, along with match officials.
The Police Youth Challenge Cup has been held since 2013 at the Commissioner’s behest and is aimed at youth between the ages of 15 and 35.
The cup aims at creating a better future through youth empowerment and involvement in productive activities.
There are more than 340 youth participating in the cup in a total of 20 teams competing, out of which 2 teams are from the atolls.
There are a total of 47 matches planned and the final is scheduled to be on the 10th of January 2015.
The previous cup had only 19 teams participating.
