Male’ City Council has done to court against the government for narrowing down their legal authority as granted by the decentralization act.
In a press conference held yesterday, Mayor Mohamed Shihab said that the case has been submitted at the Civil Court.
Mayor Shihab said that the Civil Court has not yet informed the council whether the court has accepted or rejected the case.
Shihab said that the Housing Ministry taking over the authority of the Male’ City Council’s responsibilities have led to confusion even among the staff of the city council.
Shihab said that the Housing Ministry have not considered the damages done to the people when the ministry took this decision to narrow down the legal responsibilities of the Male’ City Council.
He said that the matter was also submitted at LGA however up until now LGA has not responded to the complaint.
He said that the Housing Ministry took over 14 services provided by the Male’ City Council.
