Anara calls to not make a max age limit for Presidential candidates
Makunudhoo MP Anara Naeem has called not to make a maximum age limit for Presidential candidates.

Anara Naeem said that it is important not to define a maximum age limit without considering the age of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Gasim Ibrahim, President Mohamed Nasheed or the current President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Anara made this remark following the amendment submitted by the MDA member, Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail to make 65 years the maximum age limit of Presidential candidates.

Many have been raising concern regarding this amendment submitted by the PPM coalition party MDA member.

If this amendment is passed then President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim will not be able to run for Presidency in the year 2018.

Many state that narrowing the opportunity to run for Presidency is against the spirit of democracy and there is no country in the world which has set a maximum age limit for presidential candidates.
