President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the government is trying to invite the world’s richest investors to Maldives.
President Yameen made this remark speaking at the inauguration of the water supply and sewerage system project of Hulhumeedhoo island of Addu City.
He said that a private parking area is being established in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport to cater to these investors. He said that economic projects will be based on this.
The President said that the government is trying to bring 2 to three or four billion dollars of projects to Maldives instead of 200 million dollar worth projects. He said that such investors will always see whether Maldives has a safe environment for them to make such big investments.
He said that it will be very saddening if the Maldivians give such investors a bad signal. “It will be similar to sinking this ship we are sailing upon to the Indian Ocean,” he said.
President Yameen said that there will be always different leaders to lead the country in this journey. “I am here today. Tomorrow it will be someone else. The next day it will be someone else. But the people of Maldives will remain in our land. This Maldivian state will remain. Our land should be a peaceful land,” he said.
President said that regardless who is ruling over Maldives and regardless of the political differences the reality is that Maldivians should be united to reach these goals.
