Jamiyyathu Salaf has stated that it is not acceptable that the Peoples’ Majlis is trying to pass an amendment to make the maximum age of Presidential candidates as 65 years.
Speaking to Vmedia, the President of the Jamiyyathu Salaf, Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed Ibrahim said that this amendment is not acceptable in the Sharia and nor in the constitution. He said that this is contradictory both legislatively and logically.
Abdulla said that anyone above 40 years has the right to become the President and every human being becomes wise when he is above 65 years old. He said that those of that age will be more serious about ruling the country then being playful.
Sheikh Abdulla said that the officials of the Jamiyathu Salaf have decided to hold discussions regarding this issue.
The amendment calling defining a maximum age of Presidential candidates was submitted to the Majlis by the PPM coalition’s MDA member, Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail.
