Defence Minister Mariya Didi has stated that it is the national defence force which has the highest responsibility in maintaining peace and stability in the country. The minister made this statement while speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 13th Physical Instructor Course conducted by MNDF College of Defence and Security Studies (CDSS).
The minister said that as stated by President Solih in his first address to the parliament, the backbone of Maldivian sovereignty is MNDF and the government is doing a lot of work to ensure that the soldier has military discipline, latest military knowledge and are highly capable.
She said that the army’s responsibility is to defend the nation from any dangers it may face and hence it is important for them to be healthy and to be well trained. Furthermore, she said that the MNDF should do a lot of work to maintain the political, economic and religious unity of the country. She said that these things can be done by further improving the institution and the leadership of MNDF is doing that now. The minister also talks about the steps taken by the government to improve the welfare of MNDF.
