Jumhoory Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim has stated that the party will contest for 46 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Speaking at a press held at JP’s HQ, Qasim stated that out of 46 constituencies, candidates of JP and PPM contests for 14 constituencies. He said that other than those constituencies, JP will support PPM candidates in other constituencies and PPM will support JP’s candidates as well. In addition, he said that they gave up 4 constituencies for MDA.
Qasim Ibrahim said that they did not make any agreement with PPM, and their only agreement is to work together in the parliamentary elections, and they had to do this to win the maximum number of seats. He said that they took this decision because MDP refused to honor the agreement made among the coalition partners.
He further said that they do not have any agreements with PPM to work together after the parliamentary elections. Qasim said that JP will cooperate with the government in every endeavor that is conducted in accordance with the constitution of the Maldives.
Qasim also expressed concern because President Solih decided to support MDP candidates in the last moment, after saying that he will respect the coalition agreement.
