The parliament has passed the amendment to Pension Act which will allow the fund to be used to finance for Hajj.
The amendment was proposed by the government and it is part of the President’s 100-day pledges.
The parliament passed the bill as it was sent to the floor from the committee. All the 69 MPs present in the chamber voted for the bill.
According to the new provisions added to the legislation, the applicant who wishes to use the fund for Hajj must be a first time Hajj pilgrim and must have the MVR 2000 monthly pension money issued under Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme by pension age deposited to Retirement Savings Account when the applicant applies for the release of funds for Hajj.
