Commissioner of Police Hussein Waheed has stated that the results of the efforts of the Police to decrease crime rate in the Maldives have been very fruitful.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Commissioner of Police Hussein Waheed stated that Police efforts even with the many challenges have shown to decrease crime rate this year.
“Last year, about 21000 cases have been reported to Police. However this year it was decreased to 18000. Therefore this is a decrease of 3000. So I believe that this is the result of the efforts of policing,” he said.
Hussein Waheed said that last year many different awareness programs have been held throughout Maldives and about 50,000 people participated in these events. He said that these programs have been very successful.
He said that it is too quick to say that the amendment brought to the issue of sharp objects has started to show results.
“The police is doing their job for it. Therefore if the cooperation of other institutions are received then the results will be very good. I assure you that,” he said.
The commissioner said that if this law is implemented with the cooperation of all responsible authorities then the issue will be very much resolved.
