Qasim Ibrahim the speaker of the parliament has stated that he supports the Maldives rejoining the Commonwealth.
Qasim made this statement while meeting with the Commonwealth delegation visiting the Maldives.
The meeting was held at the parliament house this afternoon. Qasim welcomed the Commonwealth delegation and discussed about the benefits Maldives will get from the union. Qasim noted that he is sure that Maldives will benefit from the Commonwealth in the future.
The Maldives joined the commonwealth in 1982. However President Yameen’s administration decided to leave Commonwealth in 2016. Upon assuming the office, President Solih decided to rejoin the union.
